In addition she holds a B.S. in Health Science from the University of Arizona, an MPH from California State University, Long Beach, a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from the City College of New York, and a Master in Education from Widener University.  In her free time she is an avid traveler, hiker, and dancer.

Origin Story

In 2000, Dr. Gibson began her career as a high school Health Education teacher in Long Beach, California. After completing her MPH, she moved to New York City, where she continued teaching for nearly two decades. In 2017, Rachael spent her sabbatical at the University of Cape Town in South Africa where her work was based in sexuality education and gender-based activism.  Through this work, she learned of the many paralleled barriers and bridges to sexuality education between South Africa and the US.  What Rachael has come to understand is that there is a greater need for partnership and collaboration between our communities in order to affect sustainable change. Dr. Gibson is developing a transnational teacher exchange program, that aims to amplify the voices of diverse sexuality educators by offering a platform for the exchange of dialogue, in-service workshops and pre-service teacher development, as well as continued research and advocacy.  Dr. Gibson believes in global citizenship, and sharing and learning in order to create a stronger community with a collective mindset.  Grounding our mission in the South African concept of Ubuntu, she offers our technical support to a variety of global organizations.
